London: University of Hertfordshire

One of the major reasons for our trip to London was a visit to the University of Hertfordshire in Hatfield for their Open Days event. This is Liz's number one choice for Animation, and Amy wasn't about to send her overseas without having visited the college.

We rode the school's Uno bus system (www.unobus.info) from London to Hatfield. The driver was helpful and the motorway ride pleasant, but we were not exactly sure at which stop to get off. Later we learned that the bus routes had changed for the Open Days schedule from those listed on the website.

When we arrived at Hatfield, we ran into another young lady who was equally confused by the bus stops. Beatrice was also visiting for Open Days, was the same age as Liz and also interested in the school of Animation! And so our little trio became a foursome for the day. She was very sweet and helpful and it was nice to see the entire college visit process through the eyes of someone who lives in the UK.

We toured three different housing options and enjoyed a presentation by the School of Creative Arts faculty. We were able to spend a few moments with one of the animation professors and ask specific questions about how Liz can prepare for the admission interview process. We also spoke with several animation students and toured the campus.

One of the items Liz was wanting to purchase was a college sweatshirt, since she can wear it at school. The selection was limited, as college apparel is not popularly worn in London but she found one that she liked. Incidentally, the "Herts" is pronounced like "hearts" and thus their mascot is a large male deer, or hart.
