The Wild Robot
The Wild Robot is an emotional exploration of what might happen if an artificial intelligent robot attempted to coexist with nature. As a children's book, it naturally falls on the brighter philosophical side. It is also interesting that the only activities which truly mar the Utopian paradise are precipitated by humans.
Parents should know that animal deaths are presented as both necessary and natural but descriptions of grotesque destruction are only attributed to the robots. Several instances of animals using their droppings play into the story, composing the only "potty" humor in this touching tale.
Overall I found the story charming and endearing. However, from a computer science or humanitarian perspective there are some major assumptions that young readers may not distinguish as fiction. I believe that overall, the message is one that technology and nature can flourish together so long as humans do not let their selfishness get in the way.
